How can we help you?
We want every patient who visits BMB Dental Clinic to feel completely confident in their dental care and treatments. For that reason, we encourage our patients to ask questions, and we've provided answers to a few of our most commonly asked questions below.
If you don't see your questions listed, we welcome your call for more information. We're always happy to provide help over the phone.
Braces
Yes, adults can absolutely get braces. While most adults prefer Invisalign or similar systems, sometimes due to the complexity of the treatment, they need to have braces. From time to time, after discussing various treatment options, a patient may decide to compromise on the expected results in order to avoid braces and proceed with clear aligners instead.
Yes, you can. play sports with braces. Depending on the sport, you may need to have a special mouth guard to protect your teeth and braces. Generally, it is better to stay away from high contact sports as getting hit on the face while having braces on can cause injuries to the soft tissue and teeth.
Yes, braces can hurt, but not much. Any force applied to the teeth will cause some slight pain and discomfort. However, this pain won’t last long as the body adapts itself to the force. It usually lasts only for few days. Most of the time, you only need to take a few regular painkillers before the pain stops.
When you have braces, you will need to spend longer than usual cleaning your teeth. To achieve a good clean, it is recommended to use a water flosser, special orthodontic brush, Piksters and mouth wash.
The best way to know if you need braces is to have a consultation with your dentist. You may need braces if you have any sort of misalignment, crowding, spacing, overbite, underbite, narrow jaw, impacted teeth or similar problem with the teeth.
This answer depends on the amount of crowding of the teeth or other discrepancies that may need to be fixed. It can be between 1 to 3 years for braces treatment to finish.
The price of braces will vary depending on the complexity of the case. The total cost could be somewhere between $7,000 to $10,000 over the full process.
This depends on which stage of the treatment you are up to. Generally, every 4 to 6 weeks.
Normally, the term 'braces' refers to the braces placed on the outside of the teeth, known as Buccal Braces. In some cases, the brackets can be placed on the inside of the teeth to make them less visible. This is called Lingual Braces.
Brackets can also be made from different materials. Generally, stainless steel or porcelain brackets are used. In this case, porcelain brackets are considered to be more aesthetic due to their white colour and ability to match with the natural shade of the teeth.
It's best to avoid any hard food that could break the wire, detach the bracket from the tooth or damage other components. Sticky food can also stay under the wire or around the brackets and can be difficult to clean off. This means that it can remain on the tooth for a longer period of time and cause decay. In general, foods that should be avoided include nuts, apple, hard uncooked vegetables (such as carrots), all sorts of candies/lollies, hard chocolate, mentos, chewing gum, and hard bread. Patients are encouraged to use Piksters and a water flosser to clean the teeth as well as possible.
Clear Aligners
We can close the gaps with Clear Aligners, such as Invisalign, but fixing overbites and underbites is more difficult. Generally, any movement of the teeth that involves moving the teeth into the gum or out of the gum if quite hard to do with Clear Aligners. Other movements that are difficult to achieve with Invisalign include tooth rotations and bodily movements of teeth.
The simple answer is no, you cannot drink coffee or alcohol while wearing clear aligners such as Invisalign - you can only drink water. Coffee has a risk of staining your teeth or causing damage to your aligners.
Every time we eat or drink, our saliva starts cleaning and neutralising the acids introduced into the mouth - such as those from soft drinks or produced by bacteria that feed on food remnants. When you have aligners on your teeth, saliva cannot reach the teeth effectively. This can prolong the contact between acid and the tooth surface, potentially causing damage to both the teeth and gums. This is why it is very important to clean your teeth after eating and before putting the aligners back in.
No, you cannot eat with Invisalign. You can only drink water when wearing Invisalign. For any other drink or food, you need to remove the aligner, eat, clean your teeth and wear the aligner again.
Invisalign shouldn't hurt much. Generally, aligners apply lighter pressure on the teeth in comparison with braces so the pain won't be as bad. Overall, any movement to the teeth will cause some slight pain or discomfort for a short period of time at the beginning of the treatment. After a week or two, you won’t feel any pain.
Invisalign is one of the most commonly used brands of clear aligners. In fact, Invisalign was the first brand to introduce this system. These days, there are many different brands that fall under the same category of clear aligner systems.
Clear aligners are plastic trays that are custom-made for each person. These aligners fit tightly on the teeth, and most of the time, to increase this retention, the treatment plan includes small buttons called attachments, which the dentist places on the teeth.
The way this system works is by pushing or pulling the teeth in a certain direction in small increments, guiding them to the desired position. In this system, depending on the case, the patient will generally receive between 10 and 30 aligners. The patient uses each aligner for one week and then moves on to the next one. Each aligner moves specific teeth by about 0.25mm. This gradual movement is very gentle on the teeth and will eventually guide them to the desired position.
BMB Dental Clinic offers Invisalign®,ClearCorrect and many other aligner brands as discreet orthodontic options for our patients. Your dentist recommends cleaning your clear aligners daily to reduce bacteria and plaque buildup. Clear aligners are disposable; most patients change them out every couple of weeks, but they can still become damaged or dirty if not cleaned.
When cleaning your clear aligners, there are some essential things to remember:
- Rinse the aligners with lukewarm water every day, especially before and after wearing them.
- Brush your aligners with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a gentle, clear liquid soap to remove food particles and bacteria. We recommend having a toothbrush for your teeth and a separate toothbrush that you only use for your clear aligners. Also, never use toothpaste or scented soap to clean your aligners.
- After brushing your aligners, thoroughly rinse them with lukewarm water.
- When you’re not wearing your clear aligners, store them in a protective case.
Cleaning Accessories for Clear Aligners
There are countless cleaning accessories and products for clear aligners, such as effervescent tablets, brushes and sanitising solutions. For example, Invisalign has a sterilising product called ‘Steraligner’. The ingredients for this product include a natural antiseptic called sodium bicarbonate and rubbing alcohol.
As with many other products, Steraligner instructs users to soak the aligners in this solution for three minutes, rinse them, and brush them using a soft-bristled brush and warm water. Your Mona Vale dentist can recommend clear aligner products and accessories you can use for your home hygiene routine.
Clear Aligners in Mona Vale, NSW
BMB Dental Clinic invites you to arrange a clear aligner consultation with Dr. Babak Moharrami. Dr. Moharrami will present your treatment options and provide guidance on clear aligner care, including sanitation practices.
For high-quality service, visit Mona Vale dental for your consultation today.
Cleaning your clear aligner/invisalign trays is very important. You just need to wash them with your brush under the tap water, or use a small amount of soap if needed (be sure to rinse thoroughly). There are also some products you can buy from a chemist to clean and disinfect them. This often isn't necessary as you change aligners weekly.
It really depends on the amount of crowding and/or other issues that we plan to fix. The more complex the problem, the greater the number of aligners the patient needs. As each aligner needs to be worn for one week, more aligners mean a longer treatment time. Generally, Invisalign treatment takes between 6 to 18 months.
Treatment timelines vary by patient, but your teeth will shift toward straight positions gradually across the timeline, so you should notice improvement every few weeks. Patients may spend two years or longer in treatment, but the average timeframe is approximately 18 months.
Clear Aligners for Discreet Treatment
Clear aligners, like Invisalign in Mona Vale, and similar systems have changed the way we think about orthodontic care. With these systems, you can enjoy discreet therapy without having to contend with metal and wires.
Our clear aligner trays are virtually invisible.
If you’re considering discreet orthodontics, the first step is a meeting with the dentist. This consultation determines candidacy, potential costs, and how long you’ll be in treatment. We also set aside plenty of time to answer your questions.
Treatment involves taking impressions of your teeth and using the results to fabricate your tooth trays. You wear each set for a few weeks before moving on to the next. When you finish your trays, you’ll have an aligned smile!
After therapy, we fit you with a customised retainer to ensure long-term success.
Follow your dentist’s instructions throughout treatment, including wearing your retainer afterwards to prevent orthodontic relapse.

The cost of Invisalign can vary depending on the number of aligners, length of the treatment and complexity of the case. In general, you are looking at between $3000 and $8000.
The clear aligners need to be worn almost 24/7. The minimum recommended time is 22 hours a day. You only take them out when you eat, drink, or clean your teeth. Having said that, you can remove them for certain occasions. For example, if you do sports like swimming and are worried that you will lose the aligners in the water, or if you are out for a special event and are concerned that you may lose the aligners. The harm of losing the aligner is usually greater than not wearing the aligners for a few extra hours.
Both braces and Invisalign have their pros and cons. Generally, braces are the better option for teenagers or young adults, whenever Invisalign is more suitable for adults. There may also be certain reasons for choosing a particular path. Invisalign and similar products are made of plastic which means they cannot apply strong forces on the teeth - for that reason, some complex cases need to be treated with braces regardless of the age. From the other side, if a teenage patient if disciplined enough to use the aligners as it is instructed, he/she can use Invisalign to align teeth as well.
At BMB Dental Clinic, Dr Babak Moharrami helps patients straighten their teeth for healthy, attractive smiles with both clear aligner treatments, such as Invisalign and ClearCorrect, and traditional braces.
Both methods of teeth straightening have their advantages and disadvantages, which is why we often recommend them to different types of patients.
Clear Aligners vs Braces
Adult patients who value discretion often prefer Invisalign, ClearCorrect, Spark Aligners or SureSmile treatment over traditional braces since traditional braces are more apparent. Invisalign and other clear aligner treatments are nearly invisible, which means their friends, family, and colleagues don't need to know they're undergoing orthodontic treatment.
Additionally, with Clear Aligner treatment, keeping your teeth clean is much easier than with traditional braces. You can simply remove your Invisalign aligner for your regular oral hygiene routine and put the aligner back in when you've finished brushing and flossing.
We often recommend traditional braces, on the other hand, to our younger patients who need orthodontic intervention. The removability of Invisalign aligners makes them easy to use and maintain. Still, young patients tend to remove them too often and leave them out for long periods of time, affecting their treatment's progress.

Cosmetic Dentistry
At BMB Dental Clinic, we offer safe and effective professional teeth whitening treatments to patients. Our experienced dentist oversees all bleaching treatments, whether you’re undergoing chairside or home bleaching.
While bleaching can cause tooth sensitivity for some patients, professional bleaching services from our Mona Vale dental practice should not damage your teeth in any way. Even home bleaching kits provided by our clinic should not damage your teeth when used appropriately and as instructed.
However, the bleach should not be used on your gums, so be careful to avoid letting it run onto your sensitive gum tissue.
Why Do My Teeth Hurt After Bleaching?
People who have a history of sensitive teeth may experience a bit of pain when their teeth are exposed to cold after bleaching. Again, this is due to tooth sensitivity.
When you whiten your teeth, the bleaching process can open the orifice of the dentin tubules, which is the opposite of what occurs when you use toothpaste for sensitive teeth. The open orifices make your teeth sensitive to cold.
Safe Bleaching in Mona Vale
The safest way to whiten your teeth is under the supervision of a dentist. If you're looking to achieve a brighter smile, we encourage you to contact our BMB Dental Clinic to schedule a consultation with Dr. Babak Moharrami, a trusted dentist in Mona Vale. He will oversee your teeth whitening process to ensure the best and safest results.
Both techniques have their own advantages and disadvantages, so it really depends on your preference. At BMB Dental Clinic, we offer both chairside bleaching and home bleaching kits, and we encourage our patients to choose the method that’s best for them.
Home Bleaching vs Chairside
Chairside bleaching generally offers faster and more dramatic results, but you do have to be in the dental clinic for us to perform this service. Additionally, the whitening gel used in chairside bleaching is often more potent, which may cause some patients to have tooth sensitivity.
Home bleaching whitening gel is less potent, meaning less tooth sensitivity in some cases. And you can repeat whitening treatments as necessary at leisure to achieve the desired shade. There’s no need to see a dentist or wait in your dentist’s clinic for results.
With either method, patients can create a brighter smile with little effort or expense, making teeth whitening a great option for making smile improvements.
What about Patients with Sensitive Teeth?
Patients with sensitive teeth can still whiten their teeth. However, we recommend using sensitive-reducing toothpaste for a while first to lower your tooth sensitivity as much as you can. We also recommend home bleaching in those cases since the concentration is less potent.

Crowns & Bridges
No, dental crowns cannot be whitened.
Yes. It can happen that the cement of a crown debonds over time and the crown comes off the tooth. In these situations, the best option is to take the crown to your dentist and let them assess the crown and the tooth. If both are fine, the crown can be recemented back on the tooth. If any of them are damaged, you will most likely need another crown to be made, with or without fixing the tooth.
No, getting a dental crown doesn't hurt. If the tooth is root canal treated then there is no nerve in the tooth, so you won't even an injection for the crown procedure. If tooth is still alive, your tooth will be numbed with a dental injection so that you won't feel any pain.
Teeth that are severely damaged, have large portions broken off, have undergone root canal treatment, or are aesthetically compromised often require a dental crown. However, the best course of action is to consult a dentist for personalised advice and guidance.
Generally, nothing happens to the dental crown. Of course, they can break or chip but majority of the time, what causes the failure is the tooth under the crown. As most teeth with crowns are badly damaged before placing the crown, this can shorten the life of the tooth even with crown on top. Overall, the healthier the tooth when crown is placed, the longer it will last. Teeth beneath a crown can still decay in areas not covered by the crown or may crack over time, especially if they’ve been root canal treated and are subject to heavy biting forces. On average, crowns are expected to last around 10 years or longer.
Crowns can be made from a variety of materials, which can affect the price. On average, they cost around $1800 at the time of writing this Q&A (2025).
There is no other treatment that can do the job of a crown - so there isn’t a direct alternative. The only other option which could come close would be a dental filling, which involves some compromise. For example, if a tooth breaks, usually the options are a filling or dental crown. However if the tooth is badly damaged and has had root canal treatment, a filling will not hold for long and is likely to fail. A temporary filling may be used as a short-term measure, but in the long term, a crown is still necessary.
Tooth loss can make it difficult to comfortably and effectively chew food, speak clearly and socialise with others. Also, untreated tooth loss can cause remaining teeth to shift and lead to a misaligned bite, dental damage and oral disease. BMB Dental Clinic is here to help you treat tooth loss and reclaim your oral health.
Dental Bridges ‘Bridge’ the Gap
A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth, creating a lifelike appearance and restoring dental function. Bridgework spans the space left behind from tooth loss and usually necessitates three dental crowns.
Two dental crowns fit over healthy teeth on both sides of the empty space. These healthy crowned teeth are called abutment teeth and support the third crown that sits between them.
The dentist will create a bridge with more dental crowns to fill the space between the abutments if the patient has more than one missing tooth.
The number of abutment teeth a patient might need can depend on a few different factors:
- The number of missing teeth
- The length and size of the tooth roots
- The abutment teeth’s amount of bone support
- The location of the missing teeth
For instance, if you have one missing tooth, your dentist may recommend two abutment teeth; ultimately, the bridge would include three teeth.

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped covering that fits over a natural tooth. Your dentist may recommend a dental crown if you have a decayed, damaged, or misshapen tooth. If you are unhappy with your smile or need repairs, our Mona Vale dentist customises dental crowns to enhance your smile’s natural function and appearance.
Types of Dental Crowns We Offer
Dentists often recommend non-metal crowns because they look like natural teeth and seamlessly blend in with your surrounding teeth. However, the crown you receive depends on your needs, aesthetic preferences and budget. Dr Babak Moharrami offers the following types of crowns:
- Full metal (precious and non-precious)
- Full porcelain
- Full zirconia
- Porcelain-fused-to-metal
- Porcelain-fused-to-zirconia
How Can a Dental Crown Improve My Smile?
A dental crown covers and stabilises a tooth, restoring its shape and strength. These versatile restorations can improve one’s oral health and aesthetics in many ways, such as:
- Treat severe or extensive tooth decay
- Repair a broken, chipped, or fractured tooth
- Protect a weak, vulnerable or brittle tooth
- Cover a misshapen or discoloured tooth
- Stabilise and strengthen your bite
- Cap anchor teeth for a dental bridge
- Attach to a dental implant
- Shield a tooth that’s received root canal therapy

If you have a weak, damaged, or unattractive tooth, BMB Dental Clinic is here to assist you. Arrange a consultation at our Mona Vale dental practice, where our skilled dentists are committed to helping you achieve the healthy, beautiful smile you desire.
Each type of dental crowns have their pros and cons. Porcelain and Zirconia crowns are white/tooth coloured, which makes them more aesthetic, but metal is stronger and does not break. Essentially, gold crowns are considered the best as the wear resistance of a gold crown is the same as a tooth but unfortunately, they are not cosmetically acceptable these days. Zirconia crowns are harder than porcelain crowns but a bit opaque in colour. Porcelain crowns are very good for aesthetic areas like front teeth as they match the translucency of natural teeth. Sometimes, a layering technique is used which means we use 2 different materials in one crown. For example, this may be a metal or Zirconia layer under and a porcelain layer on top. This way, you have the hardness and stability of Zirconia or metal which isn't visible thanks for the external layer of porcelain.
Generally, the process is completed in two stages. The first stage, or initial session, involves preparing the tooth for the crown. This may include removing any existing decay, restoring the tooth with filling material, and reducing its size all around to make space for the crown. We then digitally scan the tooth and the surrounding teeth and send the data to a dental lab to have the crown fabricated. A temporary crown is placed over the tooth and secured with temporary cement.
The second stage takes place once the final crown is ready. We remove the temporary crown, clean the tooth, and cement the permanent crown in place. At this stage, we ensure the crown fits properly, the margins are sealed, the contact with adjacent teeth is tight, and the bite is correct.
Some dentists use in-house crown-making machines to complete the process in a single day. However, we choose not to do this. We prefer to have crowns made by a dental lab, as they specialize in this work and often achieve better results. Our approach is to focus on what we do best and allow the lab to do what they do best.
Dental Implants
Whether or not you are a good candidate for dental implants depending on two factors - the amount and quality of the bone you have at the site of implant placement and your general health. To explore this further, the bone quality and size need to be assessed with a special CT scan called Cone Beem CT. Your medical history is important as well. Smoking and diabetes are contraindications or can increase the chances of implant failure. Some medications, like Prolia, which is related to bone density can also cause issues with an implant. When discussing this with your dentist, be sure to be honest and transparent about your health and history.
Usually, dental implants are not painful. The entire procedure is done under local anaesthetic, which means the patient will not feel any pain while the work is being done. When the local anaesthetic is administered and the jaw and face are numbed up, it does not matter if it is a simple filling or surgical procedure - the patient will not feel any pain.
For single implant placements, there is usually no pain even after the procedure as the surgical site is small and the gum heals quite quickly. Multi implant placements or more complex procedures like bone grafting or sinus lifting can cause a bit of pain which can easily be controlled by over-the-counter pain killers.
Yes, they can. The success rate of implants is about 98%. So, there is always a chance that for any reason they fail. This can happen right after placement or even sometime after.
You cannot see the dental implant itself as it is buried into the bone. The crown placed on that is visible and looks like a natural tooth.
Having said that, there is a big difference between crowns over the implants and the crown part of a natural tooth. Light cannot go through implant crowns as the core of that crown is usually made of metal or zirconia, but light can go through a natural tooth. This is why there is always small difference between the two.
The cross-section of a tooth at the gum level is always bigger than the diameter of an implant. This can sometimes make the implant crown look different from a natural tooth crown.
The most important thing for the longevity of an implant after its placement procedure is the health of the gum around it. Good oral hygiene and cleaning the teeth and gums, specially around the implant, is very important.
Smoking is harmful for the gums and will shorten the life of the implant. Some medications, medical conditions and those who are genetically predisposed to periodontal disease (gum disease) are amongst the people who may lose the implant sooner than expected.
This depends on a range of factors. Typically, we expect them to last 10 to 15 years. This is based on the quality of the bone the implant is placed in, the size of the implant chosen, oral hygiene of the patient, strength of face muscles and chewing forces, existence of para functional habits like grinding and clenching of the teeth, periodontal health (gum health) in general and specifically the gum right next to the implant. Medical conditions such as diabetes and smoking can also impact if implants last shorter or longer than the standard length.
Of course, the quality of the implant and the quality of the work and placement done by the dentist can also affect the longevity of the implant’s life.
Depending on the brand and material used, dental implants can cost between $3500 and $5000.
Bone grafts in Mona Vale, NSW, act as fillers and scaffolding to promote wound healing and facilitate bone formation. Four main types of bone graft materials are available after tooth extraction and before a dental implant:
- Autograft – tissue from the patient's own body
- Allograft – donor tissue from another human
- Xenograft – tissue from another animal
- Synthetic – non-biological, artificially produced
An autograft is ideal for bone grafting because we collect it from another part of your body. If we use an autograft, we typically collect bone from the chin, back or lower jaw, or even the hips.
Allografts are another common type of bone graft material. The donor tissue is safe and effective, but there's a risk the patient's body can reject another person's tissue.
Xenografts use bovine (cow) or porcine (pig) bone and are commonly used.
Synthetic bone graft materials are artificial and have a higher risk of resorption over time.

Dental implants are titanium or zirconia screws which are surgically placed into the jawbone to replace missing teeth. A special dental crown, bridge or denture then will be made in dental lab and attached to the implant to restore the look and function of the missing teeth.
After a dental extraction in Mona Vale, NSW, the jawbone immediately starts the process of atrophying and loses its original shape. Socket preservation is a treatment your dentist uses to reduce bone loss after removing a tooth.
Socket prevention involves placing a bone graft in the tooth’s socket––which acts as scaffolding––and bone cells create the bone around the bone graft material your dentist places in the socket. After placing the bone graft into the empty socket, your dentist covers it with a collagen membrane to nourish the bone graft, encouraging healthy and quick regeneration.
This procedure protects the jawbone and empty socket from decay and creates a more robust support system for the dental implant.
Once the dentist completes the socket preservation treatment, the patient’s remaining teeth are less susceptible to shifting and loss. Also, your dentist can reconstruct the lost part of the bone with bone graft material and allow the body to replace it with bone cells suitable for dental implants.

The process of a dental implant begins with a tooth extraction. The patient then needs to wait around 2 months for the gum to heal. After this, the implant is placed and gum is stitched, with the patient then having to wait about 3-4 months. In this time, the bone will grow into the implant micro-porosities and the implant gets fused to the bone. This process is call osseointegration.
After this, the dentist will make a punch hole in the gum, access the top of the implant, do the necessary measurements and get the crown or any other restoration made by a dental lab. When the restoration is ready, the dentist will screw that into the implant and the job is done.
For simple single implant placement, recovery time is just few days or even less. If it is a bigger procedure like bone grafting, then recovery may take around a week.
Dental implants in Mona Vale, NSW require healthy bone to hold them in place. If the jawbone isn’t healthy or dense enough to surround the implant, the bone will shrink over time, and the dental implant will be exposed. When this occurs, the gums don’t attach to the implant’s surface, resulting in a gap between the gum and implant.
Patients with low bone density in the jawbone may need a bone graft to ensure the implant stays in place. In fact, anyone who has a missing tooth might need a bone graft before placing a dental implant. Every day a tooth is missing, the body experiences bone loss, which leads to disuse atrophy of the jawbone over time. Also, empty tooth sockets can collect bacteria, resulting in infection.
Jawbone resorption can occur due to gum infection, periodontitis, and bone loss. Typically two months after a tooth extraction, the dental implant should be placed to prevent future problems due to bone loss.
Bone Grafts and Dental Implants in Mona Vale, NSW
Do you have a missing tooth and need a dental implant Mona Vale? Our friendly and knowledgeable team at BMB Dental Clinic welcomes your call. We will be pleased to help you find the best treatment for your specific needs.
Dental implants offer many patients the ideal option for replacing their missing teeth. However, in order for dental implants to be successful, it’s essential to ensure you’re a good fit for dental implants.
The best way to ascertain whether dental implants are the right option for your tooth replacement is with a thorough exam in our Mona Vale dental practice. Dr Babak Moharrami will thoroughly evaluate your dental situation, using x-rays and other diagnostic tools to ensure you have a high chance of success with dental implants.
One crucial factor that dentists look for when evaluating a patient for dental implants is bone volume. Your jawbone must have enough volume to hold the implant in place securely.
What Are the Options for Patients with Bone Loss?
If your jawbone isn’t wide enough or long enough to hold a dental implant, the dentist can perform a bone graft to create more bone volume for the security of the implant.
Additionally, mini-implants, while not ideal, may provide an alternative to traditional implants in some situations, such as when the patient doesn't have the appropriate bone volume or when the cost of traditional implants is a concern.

Dental Veneers
Dental veneers are a versatile cosmetic solution that can transform the appearance of your smile by addressing a variety of dental imperfections. Veneers are thin, custom-made shells typically made of porcelain or composite resin that are bonded to the front surface of your teeth. They are designed to cover flaws such as discoloration, chips, cracks, and gaps, providing a uniform and aesthetically pleasing look. By choosing veneers, you can achieve a brighter, more symmetrical smile that enhances your overall facial appearance.
The process of getting veneers usually involves a few visits to your dentist in Mona Vale, NSW. During the initial consultation, your dentist will assess your oral health and discuss your aesthetic goals. If veneers are deemed suitable, the next step involves preparing your teeth by removing a small amount of enamel to ensure a proper fit. Impressions of your teeth are then taken and sent to a dental lab where your custom veneers are crafted. Once ready, the veneers are bonded to your teeth with a special adhesive, resulting in a durable and natural-looking finish.

Ensuring the colour-match of veneers with natural teeth is essential for a seamless, natural-looking smile. Our dentists use several techniques to achieve this perfect match:
Shade Guides
A shade guide is a tool with multiple shades of tooth colour samples. We hold these samples next to the patient's teeth to find the closest match. This step ensures the veneers blend well with the natural teeth.
Digital Imaging
Advanced digital imaging technologies allow dentists to take detailed photographs of patients' teeth. These images help create veneers that match the colour, shape, and translucency of the natural teeth. Digital imaging provides a more accurate and predictable outcome.
Custom Lab Work
The dentist works closely with a dental lab to create custom veneers. The lab technicians precisely fabricate veneers that match the patient’s natural teeth using the selected shade and digital images. This collaboration ensures high-quality and aesthetically pleasing results.
Trial Veneers
Before bonding the veneers, dentists often use trial veneers or a mock-up. This allows the patient and dentist to see how the final veneers will look and make any necessary adjustments to the colour or fit.

Dental veneers are a popular solution to help patients achieve their desired aesthetics. A dental veneer is a thin covering of material that your dentist affixes to the front surface of a tooth. You can have one veneer or several. Many patients receive a whole set of veneers, so their smile looks uniform and natural.
Veneers are versatile restorations and can correct numerous cosmetic flaws and imperfections, such as:
- Misshapen teeth
- Discoloured or severely stained teeth
- Gapped teeth or teeth with uneven spacing
- Chipped or fractured teeth
- Teeth with size discrepancies
- Worn teeth
- Mild misalignments or crooked teeth
Veneers can strengthen the teeth and provide a more classically-shaped appearance. Veneers are long-lasting and strong, have a natural-looking surface, and resist staining. Also, veneers are less invasive than receiving a dental crown, as your dentist only minimally shapes your enamel for the veneers to fit.

Dentures
Dentures are an investment in your oral health, and they can help many patients make improvements in their everyday lives. However, since a lot of time and effort goes into creating your customised dentures, along with some expenses, most patients want them to last as long as possible.
Tips for Maintaining Dentures
To improve the lifespan of your dentures, it’s crucial to maintain them properly.
Below we’ve listed some tips for maintaining your dentures:
Clean your dentures at least once every day.
To clean your dentures, you can wash them using your toothbrush. However, you should never use toothpaste as it is too abrasive for dentures. Instead of brushing them, you could also simply rinse them off with soap and water.
Keep your dentures moist.
Dry dentures can warp or shrink. When your dentures are not in your mouth, you should place them in water or a denture solution. To disinfect your dentures, you can add salt or mouthwash to the water, especially if they’re sitting in the water overnight.
Use denture cleaning tablets.
About once every month, it’s helpful to do an in-depth cleaning of your dentures using denture cleaning tablets, which can usually be purchased from a chemist. The cleaning tablets eliminate germs and bacteria from the dentures.
Wash your mouth and follow good oral hygiene routines.
To keep your dentures in good shape, it’s important to keep any remaining teeth and your gums clean and healthy.

- Partial dentures (flexible plastic)
When you visit our dental clinic for dentures or another tooth replacement, Dr Babak Moharrami will carefully examine your dental situation and offer advice on the best denture or tooth replacement for you.
What Is the Difference Between a Full and Partial Denture?
A full denture replaces an entire arch of missing teeth, while a partial denture replaces only a few missing teeth on an arch.
If you have healthy, strong teeth remaining on the arch where you need dentures, your dentist will likely recommend a partial denture to replace your missing teeth. However, if your remaining teeth aren’t strong or have weakened structures due to decay, the dentist may recommend extracting the remaining teeth and replacing them with a full set of dentures.

Most cases of dental pain do not represent genuine “dental emergencies,” though if left untreated, the sources of even minor discomfort can come to pose serious health risks. There are, however, certain telltale signs that a person is, in fact, suffering from a genuine dental emergency, and should seek immediate dental care.
Common Types of Dental Emergencies
- Sudden, severe, and persistent tooth pain
- Swelling of the gums or jaw
- Bleeding from the mouth or gums for no obvious reason
- Loose tooth/teeth. In adults, a loose tooth, even without pain, is a serious problem
- Breakage or loss of a tooth, either due to direct impact or decay
- Broken crown(s)
It is important to note that each case is unique, both in terms of ailment and the patient’s personal medical history. Thus, the opinion of a qualified dentist should be sought in order to determine the appropriate course of action.
If you are in the Mona Vale area and experiencing a dental emergency, Dr. Babak Moharrami and the skilled team at BMB Dental Clinic are ready to help. To schedule an emergency consultation, please contact our Mona Vale dental office, where we prioritize your dental health and comfort.
As any surgical or invasive procedure carries potential risks, before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
General Dentistry
As each individual's medical profile and dental care needs are unique, the cost of a teeth cleaning can vary based on a number of factors.
Factors That Affect Teeth Cleaning Costs
- Type of dental provider – the cost of a teeth cleaning can vary depending on whether you see a dentist, dental hygienist, or a specialised professional
- Location – the cost of dental services can vary depending on location, with dental care tending to be more expensive in large cities than in rural areas
- Oral hygiene habits – a person who brushes and flosses their teeth daily and regularly visits the dentist for cleanings may pay less than someone who doesn't often visit the dentist
- The severity of dental issues – if a patient has significant dental issues like tooth decay or gum disease, additional treatments may be required during teeth cleaning
It's always advisable to contact your dental clinic directly for an accurate estimate of teeth cleaning costs, as individual factors may impact the final price.

Preventive Dentistry
If you feel like you're always in the dental chair, you may be more prone to developing tooth decay than others.
Here are a few tips and measures to protect your smile and reduce your likelihood of developing cavities.
- Improve your oral hygiene.
- Brush after each meal.
- Pay attention while brushing, ensuring you clean every tooth from every angle.
- Floss at least once a day or after each meal.
- Use interdental brushes at least once a day.
- Remove any food stuck between your teeth straight away.
- Use Zero Alcohol mouthwash every day after brushing - before bed.
- Get an electric toothbrush with a medium brush head.
- Avoid any soft drink, fizzy drink or soda water. Bubbly drinks are acidic.
- Avoid beer, wine, and coffee as they are also acidic.
- Avoid drinking lemon juice with water every morning.
- Never brush straight after acidic foods or drinks. Wait at least one hour.
- Always drink plenty of water with food.
- Use a toothpaste that contains fluoride.
- Drink town water if it contains fluoride.
- Get a night guard if you grind or clench your teeth at night.
- Try some relaxing methods and physio or chiro if you clench during the day.
- Use Biotene mouthwash to improve the dry mouth, and drink more water.
- Try chewing sugar-free gum during the day to increase saliva production.
- Use homemade baking soda solution as a mouthwash to neutralize the acids in your mouth from drinks or bacteria.
- Change your medication if you can. Not all drugs have the same side effects.
- Avoid snacking, stick to only three main meals, and brush afterward.
- Avoid sweets as much as possible, or rinse your mouth straight after.
- See your dentist regularly every six months.
- Take x-rays more often to catch the decay earlier.
- See your dentist every six months for cleans and applications of concentrated fluoride to protect your teeth from acids and decay.
- Avoid smoking, as it damages your gums and changes the bacterial flora of the mouth.

Be Proactive About Your Dental Care to Protect Your Smile
If your Mona Vale dentist detects tooth decay, it's crucial to address it promptly. Ignoring tooth decay can lead to more severe issues, such as the decay spreading to the tooth's nerve, potentially causing an infection.
Early detection allows for minimally invasive treatments like dental fillings, which can effectively halt the decay.
