If you feel like you're always in the dental chair, you may be more prone to developing tooth decay than others.
Here are a few tips and measures to protect your smile and reduce your likelihood of developing cavities.
- Improve your oral hygiene.
- Brush after each meal.
- Pay attention while brushing, ensuring you clean every tooth from every angle.
- Floss at least once a day or after each meal.
- Use interdental brushes at least once a day.
- Remove any food stuck between your teeth straight away.
- Use Zero Alcohol mouthwash every day after brushing - before bed.
- Get an electric toothbrush with a medium brush head.
- Avoid any soft drink, fizzy drink or soda water. Bubbly drinks are acidic.
- Avoid beer, wine, and coffee as they are also acidic.
- Avoid drinking lemon juice with water every morning.
- Never brush straight after acidic foods or drinks. Wait at least one hour.
- Always drink plenty of water with food.
- Use a toothpaste that contains fluoride.
- Drink town water if it contains fluoride.
- Get a night guard if you grind or clench your teeth at night.
- Try some relaxing methods and physio or chiro if you clench during the day.
- Use Biotene mouthwash to improve the dry mouth, and drink more water.
- Try chewing sugar-free gum during the day to increase saliva production.
- Use homemade baking soda solution as a mouthwash to neutralize the acids in your mouth from drinks or bacteria.
- Change your medication if you can. Not all drugs have the same side effects.
- Avoid snacking, stick to only three main meals, and brush afterward.
- Avoid sweets as much as possible, or rinse your mouth straight after.
- See your dentist regularly every six months.
- Take x-rays more often to catch the decay earlier.
- See your dentist every six months for cleans and applications of concentrated fluoride to protect your teeth from acids and decay.
- Avoid smoking, as it damages your gums and changes the bacterial flora of the mouth.
